The primary responsibility of the person in this position is to provide pre-award services to faculty, thereby promoting the Mercer University president’s initiative to advance research and increase research dollars, and to coordinate pre-award and post-award activities relating to grant and contract proposals. This would be done with limited supervision by soliciting, routing and submitting grant and contract proposal applications through electronic submission, to include: providing assistance for completion of award, sub-award and award transfer agreements; tracking and monitoring funding opportunities and providing program information to interested faculty; developing and assisting in providing relevant training to faculty and staff; and setting up and maintaining InfoEd Database, Cayuse, and subsystems. This person would also be responsible for maintaining the website for the Accounting Department, as well as the Office of Grants and Contracts, to ensure faculty and staff have access to necessary forms, tools and updates for grant award opportunities and submissions, to include website updates, creating interactive web documents, and current postings for grant and contract proposal opportunities. Post award activities would include preparation of grant or contract package to be used in establishing of the account in the financial accounting system, re-budgeting of funds through posting of budget adjustments, and overseeing and processing changes to award documents and budgets during the project’s performance period. The end result the job is expected to accomplish is to create and foster a pre-award environment that contributes to increased research dollars generated for the University through a greater number of successful grant and contract award applications.


Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Business, Accounting, or related field from an accredited university/college and 1-2 years of professional accounting and/or finance experience, to include work with databases and Microsoft Excel, is required. Prior grants and contracts experience is highly desirable. Prior web design and/or web maintenance experience as well as previous experience working with Adobe also required. Accounting courses are desirable. Candidate must be detail-oriented and possess excellent communication, interpersonal and organization skills with the ability to multi-task and manage deadlines.
