Mercer University’s Penfield College invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Human Services, a non-tenure track, full-time nine month position beginning August 1, 2018. The position will be based at the University’s Macon campus in Macon, GA (approximately 1.5 hours south of metro Atlanta) with teaching responsibilities possible at the Henry County, Atlanta, Douglas County, and Macon locations and online.

The successful candidate will teach courses required in the undergraduate and graduate human services programs and in the psychology major. Responsibilities include: teaching 7 courses during the academic year, the majority of which will be at the undergraduate level, in traditional and non-traditional formats; continuing an active research, publication, and presentation agenda; seeking external funding; student advising; service on department and college committees; contributing to the university’s mission, and potential administrative duties.


Successful candidates must have earned a Ph.D. from a regionally accredited university in a Human Services-related discipline, with sociology, psychology, mental health, social services, social work, or nonprofit administration preferred. Preference will be given to applicants who provide evidence of exemplary teaching and who have experience teaching and advising adult learners. Background in teaching, especially online teaching, and agency work preferred. Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in scholarship and service will be required. Other requirements for the position include excellence in teaching, evidence of potential for establishing a successful record of research and publication, and professional experience in the human services field.
