The College of Health Professions at Mercer University invites applications for Academic Director and Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor of Physician Assistant Studies. The College of Health Professions fosters academic and professional excellence in leadership and service through a variety of health science departments: Physical Therapy, Physician Assistant Studies, Public Health, Clinical Medical Psychology, and Athletic Training. The Department of Physician Assistant Studies, located in Atlanta, Georgia, includes 10 full-time faculty members and numerous associated faculty and offers the Master of Medical Science degree.

Under direction of the Chair of the Department of Physician Assistant Studies, the Academic Director is responsible for the continued implementation and evaluation of a practice-oriented curriculum; oversight of the didactic phase of the program; student progression; ARC-PA accreditation-related data collection and analysis, program evaluation, and quality improvement. The Academic Director will also hold a faculty rank of Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor and will be involved in teaching, scholarly activities, and service to the College, University, and community.

Qualifications

Position Qualifications:

NCCPA board certified physician assistant or AMBS- or AOA-approved board certified physician (MD, DO) licensed in Georgia or eligible for state licensure, if licensed elsewhere.

• Master’s degree required; doctoral degree (eg, PhD, EdD, DHS) preferred.

• Minimum of five years of clinical experience is required.

• Minimum three years of experience in an accredited, health professions education program is preferred.

• Active involvement in the PA profession and understanding of key issues in PA education.

Mercer University is a private university with 8,600 students; 1,600 faculty and staff; 12 schools and colleges; major campuses in Macon, Atlanta, and Savannah, Georgia; and three regional academic centers across the state. The Atlanta campus is situated on over 250 wooded acres and is located 12 miles northeast of downtown Atlanta.
