Mercer University Library seeks an enthusiastic, creative, collegial, and service-oriented librarian to join the Collection Services Department. This entry-level position is based at the Swilley Library in Atlanta and joins a department of twelve Circulation staff located at campuses in Atlanta, Lithia Springs (Douglas County), McDonough (Henry County), and Macon. The successful candidate will collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Collection Services in shaping and providing patron access to library collections. As a member of the University Library faculty, this librarian participates in activities and serves on faculty committees and is a resource to the general Mercer University community.

Responsibilities: The successful candidate will serve as the librarian on the Atlanta campus with a focus on managing physical spaces and collections for all locations. Primary duties include:

• Planning and executing significant shifts of print materials at all locations
• Generating and analyzing collection statistics for assessment of library services at all locations
• Monitoring circulation parameters including circulation rules, loan periods, etc. using Innovative’s Sierra ILS
• Participating in the selection, deselection, and overall management of collections at all locations, including an active gift component
• Serving as an ex-officio member of the University Library’s Collection Advisory Team
• Preparing written documents, statistical reports, and presentations
• Contributing to the strategic agenda for the University and the University Library


Required Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA–accredited institution
• Knowledge of current and emerging trends for academic library collections
• Demonstrated proficiency in data analysis and collection assessment, including experience with library management systems for data retrieval related to collection growth, expenditures, and usage data
• Knowledge of collection development policies and practices, including gift collection management and librarian-faculty liaison programs
• Working knowledge of circulation services and their contributions to collection access and resource sharing
• Evidence of strong organizational, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including evidence of initiative, creativity, problem solving, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students
• Demonstrated oral and written communication skills
• Evidence of commitment to professional growth and development

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with collection development and/or circulation services, preferably in an academic environment
• Evidence of successful leadership skills or supervisory ability
• Experience with a content management system, such as Plone or LibGuides

Some travel among the Mercer campuses is required. The position carries sick leave and vacation benefits.

This 12 month, non-tenure track position carries faculty rank in the University Library. Library faculty participate in library-wide planning and governance, work in a shared decision-making environment and are active in University wide initiatives and professional organizations. Salary and faculty rank are dependent on qualifications and experience.
