The Mercer Engineering Research Center (MERC), an operating unit of Mercer University, is located in Warner Robins, GA. MERC is dedicated to providing high quality engineering, scientific, and technical support services under contract to both government and private industry customers.

MERC has an immediate opening in the Fixed Wing Division for an Engineer with an aerospace/structures background.

- Duties of the position include participating in a dynamic team of skilled engineers conducting structural analyses using finite element methods and performing fatigue/fracture mechanics calculations.
- Duties also include studies pertaining to aircraft structures flight data analysis and review of maintenance and failure data.


Required Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required.
- Successful candidates must be capable of obtaining and maintaining a DoD security clearance.
- This position requires a Ph.D. degree in a technical subject (ME, AE, or an engineering degree in a related area from an ABET accredited School or College of Engineering) directly related and appropriate to the primary Division and Directorate functional area; or a Masters degree in same and 1 year of related program experience; or an undergraduate degree in same and 2 years related program experience.

Desired Qualifications:
- Experience with basic principles of statics, dynamics, strength of materials, and stress calculations.
-Aeroelasticity, aerodynamics, and computational fluid dynamics experience.
-Experience in aircraft structural analysis, thermal analysis, static and dynamic analysis.
-Experience with analysis, design and repair of fiber reinforced composites, classic lamination theory/material anisotropy, joining/fastening processes, corrosion/delamination/failure modes, and inspection methods.
-Experience in using NASTRAN, AFGROW, StressCheck, LSDYNA, ABAQUS, SolidWorks, MATLAB/Python/Gnu-Octave, LabView,ANSYS.
-Experience with structural testing, instrumentation and data reduction.
-Experience/familiarity with aircraft structure especially related to C-17, C-130, C-5, F-15, F-16, 707, and/or 737.
-Experience with MATLAB, Python, GNU/Octave.
