Responsibilities

The Department of Computer Science in Mercer University’s College of Liberal Arts is accepting applications for a tenure track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The appointment will be effective August 1, 2018.

Applicants should have a strong commitment to undergraduate education. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in cybersecurity, computer science, and information technology, directing undergraduate research projects, and serving as faculty advisor for students majoring in computer science or information science and technology. Responsibilities also include curriculum development in cybersecurity, and assisting with efforts to become an NSA Center of Excellence in cybersecurity. Maintaining an active research program that complements the department’s current areas of interest is also expected. The successful applicant will assist with mentoring our Cyber Defense Competition Team. Faculty members are also encouraged to teach in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program of the College.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. in computer science, information technology, cybersecurity, computer engineering, or in a closely related area. Applicants with ABD will be considered for the interview process provided there is evidence that all degree requirements will be completed by time of appointment. If Ph.D. is not awarded by the time of this appointment, then rank will be lowered to Instructor. Applicants must have a demonstrated academic and/or professional background in cybersecurity. This person will serve a key role in the expansion of our cybersecurity program at Mercer University.

Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

The Computer Science Department offers the BS degrees in computer science, computational science, and information science and technology. BA degrees are offered in both computer science and information science and technology. The BS degree program in computer science is accredited by ABET. The information science and technology curriculum includes a cybersecurity emphasis. The Department also offers coursework in support of the Computer Engineering major that is offered through the School of Engineering, and coursework for Business majors in the School of Business.
