Responsibilities

Working under the general supervision of the Director of Facilities, this position performs a broad range of building maintenance tasks for all University facilities in the areas of general maintenance, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry. Also must be able to hire and manage contractors. Communicates with various faculty, staff, and students to keep them informed on repair work which impacts them. Must have good organizational skills to keep up with the heavy workload, and manage the related paperwork. Must be computer literate. Performs other duties as assigned. The end results of this job allow the Physical Plant to provide good customer service for the campus’ students, faculty, and staff, which includes helping the Physical Plant keep the campus well-maintained, safe, and comfortable.

Qualifications

Requires high school diploma/GED and a minimum of two years of experience working in maintenance and/or construction or an equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities can be acquired. Candidate must possess working knowledge in the areas of electrical, carpentry, plumbing and HVAC systems and the skill to perform general maintenance in these trade areas. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and plans. Additionally the candidate must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs with or without reasonable accommodation. Excellent verbal and interpersonal skills required. Candidates who are committed to continuing professional development to include work toward achievement of journeyman skill level and/or professional licensor are desired. Successful experience with contractors and vendors is desirable.

Candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by the University carrier.

Selection of the final candidate is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
